Goodbye Pandora
Tim Westergren, founder of Pandora, sent out an email today saying that they haven’t made much progress with licensing their service for non-US customers. They’d managed to keep the service going for users in Canada and the UK (as well, of course, as the US), but that they are now having to block Canadian users until they can clear up licensing.
It’s times like this that I wonder where the big guns are. So many cool, wealthy companies could either inject capital into Pandora or buy them out, as Viacom is rumored to be doing with Last.fm, a similar service to Pandora. In my opinion, though, Pandora outshines pretty much everything out there. I have been using MusicMesh in anticipation of this problem, but while I like it, it’s not Pandora.
Well, good luck Pandora.
Monitoring Your Website With Twitter
MoniTwitter is a new web service that keeps an eye on your website. If the site goes down, MoniTwitter sends you a message via phone, IM, or on their website, which looks like Twitter, but without the ability to add messages.
SEOmoz 2007 Web 2.0 Awards
Loved this last year, and now there’s the SEOmoz 2007 Web 2.0 Awards. It’s one of those must-see lists if you do any sort of work online. I’m surprised to see how many sites on this year’s list that I’ve never heard of. Since I try to keep up with the best web 2.0 apps, it’s a partial indicator of how much this sphere is expanding.
